Reuse and Repurpose

Salad to go! Repurposed Garden Containers. A series.

When this little red cooler lost its lid (okay, its human lost its lid) it was repurposed into a container.

It turned out to be just the thing for taking along on camping trips. While it no longer kept things cold on the inside, it still kept the lettuce fresh on the topside!

Or you can enhance your reputation as the quirky person from the office by packing your cooler/fresh salad to work every day!

Filled with mesclun mix (basically fancy speak for an assortment of leaf lettuces) the leaves can be gently trimmed, leaving the roots undisturbed so more leaves can grow back. This practice is known as “cut and come again” and is a wonderful way to get more greens from your ground. Or in this case, from your cooler!

This project was also featured in a post all about growing your own greens. Click here to read more.
